After a disqualification in the 1500m semi-finals, American Cole Hocker comes back in the 5000 Meter Finals to capture the Gold Medal.

The Olympic 1500m Champ had qualified for the final in that event, but was later disqualified for jostling other runners trying to find space in the final stretch. That only added fuel to the fire in the longer distance, as he safely qualified for the 5000m final.

Hocker opened the finals by stringing out the field, and leading from the front as to avoid any other issues. At 800m in, those duties were passed off to Grant Fisher, as Hocker dutifully regressed back to the back of the field.

It would be game on for Hocker in the final lap, an athlete well known for his kick. Running the final lap in 52.5 seconds, Hocker streamed past the field, and was in sight of the leader with 125m to go. He passed the leader, Isaac Kemeli (BEL) on the final straight, and would not be denied.

Cole Hocker crossed the line to win in 12:58.30
