After the fireworks at Gans Creek and the Cowboy Jamboree, Division I cross country fans got a quieter weekend as the calendar turned to October. Here is some of the movement in FloTrack's College XC Rankings presented by HOKA.

Jason Bowers Highlights A Quiet Weekend of Racing

There was little movement across the Men’s Individual Rankings this week, aside from the addition of East Tennessee State’s Jason Bowers, who clocked 23:23 to win the Louisville Classic and lead the Buccaneers to a narrow 60–62 victory over Eastern Kentucky.

The only other changes inside the top 30 came from Michigan State’s Riley Hough and Louisville’s Elsingi Kipruto, who entered at No. 23 and No. 25, respectively. Kipruto, previously unranked, surged into the top 25 after a statement win at the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational in 23:14.5.

Additional risers within the top 50 include Cincinnati’s Nickson Kogei (No. 33), Arkansas’ Brian Masai (No. 43), North Carolina’s Tomer Tarragano (No. 44), and Harvard’s Sam Burgess (No. 50).

On the team side, the top 20 remained intact, though Virginia Tech, Northern Arizona, and North Carolina swapped positions to land at No. 15, No. 16, and No. 17, respectively. Georgetown also cracked the rankings at No. 27, replacing Washington, which dropped from No. 21.

Hannah Gapes, Northwestern Shine In Windy City, Shake-Up Rankings

She may have only moved up two spots in the Women’s Individual Rankings, but NC State’s Hannah Gapes made her case as a legitimate national contender.

At the scenic Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course in Chicago, Gapes and teammate Bethany Michalak finished 1–2 to lead the Wolfpack to a dominant 34–59 win over Northwestern. Gapes now sits at No. 8, while Michalak debuts at No. 37.

The lone new entrant inside the top 30 is North Dakota’s Jadyn Keeler, who climbed to No. 30. Meanwhile, Arkansas’ Sydney Thorvaldson Vaught jumped six spots to No. 31 after capturing the Chile Pepper Festival title and leading the Razorbacks to a runner-up finish.

Also joining the top 50 this week are Northwestern’s Ava Earl, who placed fourth at the Loyola Lakefront Invite, and Notre Dame’s Mary Bonner Dalton, who won the Joe Piane Invitational.

Team-wise, the top 10 held steady, but Northwestern made a big leap—up nine spots to No. 17—after its runner-up showing in Chicago. South Carolina climbed from No. 32 to No. 26, while Texas entered the rankings at No. 31 following a team victory in Fayetteville.
