St.Louis will be hosting the U.S. Olympic Marathon trials for preparation of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

USA Track & Field has officially announced that St. Louis will host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials on Saturday, March 28, 2028.

The selection marks a major homecoming. 

"Our Olympic legacy in St. Louis goes back to 1904," said Marc Schreiber of the St. Louis Sports Commission. "Being the first to hold them back then is deeply meaningful. Strategically, this makes perfect sense for St. Louis."

Another U.S. city will host the Olympics later that year when Los Angeles welcomes the 2028 Summer Olympics Games starting July 14, 2028. Here’s what to know about the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. 

The Course & The Weekend

Moving away from the loop format used when the city hosted the 2004 women's trials, the 2028 race will feature a city-wide, point-to-point course. It will start at Washington University and finish downtown at Energizer Park.

The elite trials will anchor a massive, back-to-back running weekend:

  • Saturday: Elite Olympic Trials (Men and women running together)
  • Sunday: The Greater St. Louis Marathon

Organizers view the trials as a major catalyst. 

"It’s a momentum thing," the local organizing committee noted. "The idea is raising the profile of the local race and connecting it to the Olympic trials...hoping to put St. Louis on the map."
