Kerr and Ingebrigtsen will race the 1500m at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, joining Hocker and Nader in a stacked field.

Josh Kerr, Jakob Ingebrigtsen Set for Loaded 1500m Showdown at Ultimate Championship

Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen are going to have another go at each other.

Both stars have been granted exceptional invitations to race the 1500m at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest this September, adding two of the sport's biggest names to what was already shaping up to be a loaded field.

Kerr, the 2023 world champion, comes in with plenty of momentum - and a new mile world record. The Brit ran 3:42.66 in London last month, putting himself firmly back in the spotlight ahead of what promises to be one of the biggest races of the season.

Ingebrigtsen, meanwhile, already has an automatic spot in Budapest for the 5000m as the reigning Olympic champion. Now he'll double back to the 1500m, where he will once again line up alongside the man who has become one of his defining rivals. The Norwegian only recently returned to competition after battling injury for nearly a year, winning his fourth consecutive European 5000m title before finishing fourth in the 1500m at yesterday's Silesia Diamond League in a time of 3:31.16.

But this isn't just Kerr vs. Ingebrigtsen.

The field already includes 2024 Olympic champion Cole Hocker and 2025 world champion Isaac Nader, giving the race a collection of championship credentials that would be difficult to top anywhere in the world.

To make room for Kerr and Ingebrigtsen, the field will expand from 11 to 13 athletes

The Ultimate Championship is designed to answer one simple question: Who is the best of the best? In Budapest, the men's 1500m might be the clearest place to look for that answer.
