Tara Davis-Woodhall Involved In Car Accident, May Miss World Ultimate Championship 2026

Olympic champion Tara Davis-Woodhall announced in a post on Instagram on Sept. 2 that her status for the World Athletics Ultimate Championship on September 11 is in doubt following a head-on collision suffered last week on her way to training.

Davis-Woodhall sustained a severe concussion and other injuries, preventing her from training ahead of next week's meet in Budapest. 

"At this point I'm working with my team and doctors to get healthy, but I'm not sure if I will be ready to compete at Ultimate Championships next week," Davis-Woodhall wrote in her Instagram post.

The Mesquite, Texas native shared dash cam footage of the incident, as well as multiple images showing bruising and cuts on her arms immediately after the collision.

The reigning No. 1 long jumper in the world, Davis-Woodhall was poised to defend her title in Budapest following a first-place finish in the Prefontaine Classic before claiming three podium finishes at the USA Championships in July. Davis-Woodhall previously topped her personal best in long jump on June 14, soaring 7.20 meters on her way to a dominant performance at the USATF LA Grand Prix in Los Angeles.

With Davis-Woodhall's status uncertain ahead of the World Athletics Ultimate Championship, attention shifts to Italy's Larissa Iapichino, who finished as the runner-up to the American at the Prefontaine Classic with a jump of 7.12 meters.
