Dancing With The Stars Check-In: Can Ezra Frech Win Season 35?

Let’s check in on Ezra Frech’s Dancing with the Stars journey.

Frech, a multiple-time Paralympic champion, world champion and world record holder, made history this week by earning the first 10 of Season 35. The theme was “Dedication Week,” and Frech’s performance was a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Bahar Soomekh.

Paired with professional dancer Danielle Karagach, Frech performed a contemporary routine to “Bloodline” by Mon Rovia. The emotional performance concluded with Frech bringing his mother onto the dance floor, leaving the judges, audience and fans at home visibly moved.

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli each awarded the pair a nine, while Kym Johnson gave them a 10, marking the first 10 of the season. Their combined score of 37 out of 40 reflected a performance that resonated far beyond the ballroom. Tonioli described the routine as both “inspiring” and “life-affirming,” while Karagach was moved to tears before the scores were announced. The professional dancer said she hoped the routine did justice to the special relationship between Frech and his mother.

When Frech was introduced to the show earlier this season, he shared that his mother stepped away from her acting career when he was born. The closing moments of the dance carried an additional layer of meaning, paying homage to Love You Forever, the children's book by Robert Munsch that Soomekh read to Frech throughout his childhood.

As Frech continues his run on Dancing with the Stars, his growth as a dancer is becoming increasingly apparent. This week's performance showcased not only his developing ability on the dance floor but also his capacity to connect with an audience through storytelling and emotion.

With the first 10 of the season now under his belt, Frech has established himself as a competitor to watch. The question is no longer just how far he can go in the competition, but whether he has what it takes to win Season 35.
