BEIJING - The IAAF announced Wednesday that two Kenyan sprinters Koki Manunga and Joyce Zakary have accepted provisional suspensions after positive drug tests conducted prior to the World Championships.

The tests took place in Beijing on August 20th and 21st prior to the runners’ 400m performances.

“These targeted tests were conducted by the IAAF at the athlete hotels during the pre-competition phase. The IAAF will not discuss the details of the cases as they progress through the results management process,” the IAAF wrote in a statement.

Manunga finished sixth in heat two of the first round of the women’s 400m hurdles in a personal best of 58.96. Zakary competed in the 400m and ran a national record-mark of 50.71. Despite earning an automatic qualifying spot in the semifinal, Zakary did not show up to the starting line.
