Resolutions?

Resolutions?

Resolutions?
I have problems with resolutions. It is not like that I cannot stick to them. I am very good at following thru with resolutions. As a runner, I tend to set goals. As soon as I run a PR, I try to find ways to set a new one. It is that there tends to be some problems with resolutions. First of all, according to Merriam Webster Dictionary a resolution is something that is resolved or the act or process of resolving. So when one makes a resolution, one is promising that some sort of problem is going to be fixed take for example Brittney Spears might make the resolution to wear underwear. Really, most people take a resolution to be more like a goal. Goals usually are not fixing problems in some cases they do. One’s goal might be to loose weight and thus fixes the problem of those extra pounds. The resolutions that are often heard do not solve a problem take for example the resolution to be faster. Well, being faster does not resolve a problem of being slow. Now if one resolved to work harder at work-outs that resolves the problem of being slow for one is activity working and not just hoping to be faster. I believe a resolution should be about steps that can fix a problem and not about an overall goal. I am not trying to sound like Dr. Phil, but I do believe it is better to resolve the small problems to acheive an overall goal. The other problem, I have with resolutions is that people tend to wait till the New Year to make resolutions. If you really want to resolve a problem, why not start immediately? If you want more core strength, would you not start doing crunches immediately? If one keeps putting off a goal till a certain date it seems more likely that one will not follow thru with it. With that all stated I do believe that every runner should have goals. These goals can be certain times to achieve or simply just to be healthy. I hope you all achieve them. I know I will be working on many goals for this upcoming year, and being a better writer is one of them. I wish everyone a happy New Years, and it looks like it will be a great year. Hopefully, by next I will actually have some Division II news but that all depends of course on when the schools are back in. *picture found at http://www.oldhouseweb.com/stories
