DII Weekend Review Jan 10.

Jack Frost has begun his torture, bringing freezing temperatures and white precipitation to much of the United States. The spring semester has begun, making the days of sleeping late during winter break seem like a distant memory.  For many, this past weekend marked the chance to test out their legs after winter break to see if their training was effective. As usual, I encourage readers to comment and post any other results.  After all, Flotrack is a community!

Carthage Opener- University of Wisconsin-Parkside (UW-Parkside) finished third in the Women’s team competition with 39 points behind North Illinois (212) and Carthage College (145).  In the women’s one mile run, UW-Parkside took first, second and third. Jessica Monsoon took first with an automatic qualifying time of 4:52. She was followed by Hope Christie (5:19) and Heidi Ertl (5:23). On the men’s side, Concordia University of Wisconsin finished third with 53 points behind Carthage College (201) and Ashford (65).

University of Delaware’s Winter Invitational- West Chester’s women won the DII and DIII team competition with 113 points. Millersville was fourth with 67.50 points.  West Chester’s men’s team also took home the title for the DII and DIII competition with 158 points followed by Millersville with 76 points.

Missouri Invitational- There was some very solid sprint performances on both the men’s and women’s side in this unscored meet.  Lincoln’s Janika Martell won the women’s 60 meters with a time of 7:49, an automatic qualifying time for Nationals. She was followed by teammate Shanna Kay Wright (7:59) who posted a provisional qualifying mark. Martell continued her winning ways finishing first in the 200 meters with the time of 25: 57.  On the men’s side, Emporia State’s Kenton Lonberger won the 60 meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 6.83.

Cornell Southern Tier Open- At this small four-squad meet, many runners tested out their indoor legs including Queens (NY) and Mansfield. Mansfield’s Chris Cummings won the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:53.20. His teammate Mike Gray won the shot put with a throw of 16.08 meters, which earned him a provisional qualifying mark. Queen College swept the women’s 200 meter placing first, second and third with Veronica Catry placing first in a time of 26.00.

Below is a new thing I am adding. It is a discussion question, so play if you want.
