Chocolate, roses and diamonds are all good gifts for any valentine but the best gift came from running to many athletes this weekend. This gift was a qualifying time for the NCAA indoor national meet. I will review the automatic qualifying times from this weekend. As usual, I encourage the reader to respond in a respectful manner (please don’t make me become the message board police) and to point out anything I have missed. Links are included to the races and interviews.
Grand Valley State University Big Meet- Colorado School of the Mines’ Mack McLain hit the automatic qualifying mark in the mile with a time of 4:02.70. Hillsdale’s Jason Stomps garnered the automatic mark in the weight throw with a throw of 20.55m.
In the women’s 800 meters, Grand Valley sophomore Chanelle Caldwell finished fourth with an automatic mark of 2:10.76. Her teammates, Monica Kinney (4:53.24) and Karie McDonald (4:54.20) both automatically qualified in the mile. In the 5, 000 meters, Ferris State’s Christina Muir (16:50.41) finished first with an automatic qualifying mark, ahead of slew of provisional qualifying marks (results here). Grand Valley’s 4x400 meters automatically qualified with a time of 3:45.26. Her teammate, Liz Murphy automatically qualified with a weight throw of 18.27 meters. Ferris State’s Christian Muir (16:51.11)and Western State’s Lauren Kleppin (16:55.12) both automatically qualified in the 5,000 meters.
BU Valentine Classic-Lockhaven’s DMR provisionally qualified with a 9:56.55. Findlay’s Stephanie Charnigo (2:10.63) and Southern Connecticut State’s Danielle Moore (2:11.00) both automatically qualified in the women’s 800 meters.
Tyson Invitational-Lincoln’s Bruce Kimour automatically qualified in the 60 meters with a time of 6.72. Missouri Southern’s DMR automatically qualified with a time of 9:51.92.
Lincoln’s Janika Martell ran a 7.38 in the women’s 60 meters to automatically qualify. Her teammates, Yanique Haye and Nyoka Cole automatically qualified in the women’s 400 meters with a time of 55.59. and 55.34. Missouri Southern’s Kimi Shank ran a 16:47.34 to automatically qualify in the 5,000 meters. Lincoln’s 4x4 automatically qualified with a time of 3:41.85.
UW Husky Classic Adams State’s Andrew Graham automatically qualified in the 800 meters with at time of 1:51.04. Western Washington’s Anthony Tomisch automatically qualified in the mile with a time of 4:07.06. Adams State automatically basically qualified their top five cross country runners led by Aaron Braun (13:42.22) in the 5,000 meters. He was followed by his teammates: Reuben Mwei (13:50.37), Brian Medigovich (13:50.87), Luke Cragg (14:03.65) and Ryan McNiff (14:06.40). Western Washington’s Ryan Brown automatically qualified in the pole vault with a vault of 5.17 meters. Keegan Calmes ran a 4:06.44 in the mile.
Nebraska-Omaha’s Anja Puc automatically qualified in the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.89. Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler got ever closer to breaking 4:30 in the mile with a time of 4:32.48 to lower her automatic qualifying time. Her teammate, Jane Larson automatically qualified in the mile with a time of 4:48.35. Adams State freshman, Alicia Nelson automatically qualified with a mile time of 4:48.06.
2010 ISU Classic- Minnesota State Mankato’s Brittany Henderson won the 60 meter final in an automatic qualifying time of 7.44. Her teammate, Denise Mokaya automatically qualified in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:51.51. Augustana’s Cecilie Udstuen automatically qualified in the women’s 800 mters with a time of 2:11.11
Pitt State Invitational- Pittsburg State’s Jeremy Jackson automatically qualified in the men’s 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.95.
