DII Weekend review 2/19-2/21

February is coming to a close and along with it so is the 2010 indoor season. Northeast 10 and GNAC held their conferences this past weekend with most of the conference meets will be held this upcoming weekend. There is still time to post the qualifying marks needed for the 2010 DII indoor championships and this past weekend many did. I will highlight the automatic qualifying marks. Like a broken record, I encourage you to comment below, let me know if I missed anything, or who are your favorites for this indoor season or even if you think that Adams State can sweep the top five spots in the men’s 5,000meters.
GNAC- Seattle Pacific won its seventh straight women's team title, while Western Oregon won its third straight men's title and its fourth overall. Western Washington finished second in both divisions. The Falcon women outscored the Vikings 179 1/2 to 159 1/2. Northwest Nazarene was third with 90 points. Western Washington finished just 9 1/2 points back of the Wolves in the men's scoring (171 to 161 1/2). Central Washington was third with 134 points.
Automatic qualifying marks were few and far between. Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler on top of winning the mile, won the 800 meters in an automatic qualifying time of 2:08.28. The DII mileage queen, Western Washington's Sarah Porter won the 5k in the automatic qualifying time of 16:47.07. Seattle Pacific’s women’s DMR won with an automatic qualifying mark of 11:36.32.
Northeast-10- Southern Connecticut’s men scored 143 points to win this year’s championship and were followed closely by American International College with 139 points. UMass Lowell came in third place with 88 points. On the women’s side, UMass Lowell won with 137 points to repeat as conference champions. Stonehill College followed with 111 points and finished second, while Southern Connecticut came in a close third with 108 points. Stonehill’s Corey Thomas automatically qualified in the men’s 55 hurdles with a time of 7.51.
Nebraska Tune-up- Abilene Christian’s Andrew McDowell automatically qualified in the men’s 60 meter hurdles with a time of 7.97. Lincoln teammates, Semoy Hackett (7.31) and Shanna Kay Wright (7.36) both automatically qualified in the women’s 60 meters.
Kent State Tune-up- California, PA’s Brice Myers won the 60 meter hurdles with the automatic qualifying time of 7.99. Shippensburg’s Neely Spence (4:48.54) and Mary Dell (4:52.66) both automatically qualified in the mile.
Virginia Tech Challenge- St. Augustine’s Josh Scott was second behind Bershawn Jackson in the time of 47.38 to automatically qualify in the men’s 400 meters. He and three of his teammates automatically qualified in the 4x400 meters in a time of 3:10.44.
On the women’s side, St. Augustine’s Barbara Pierre won the 60 meters in the automatic qualifying time of 7.29 and ran an automatic time in the 200 meters with 23.88. Johnson C. Smith’s Shermaine Williams (8.17) and Rosemarie Carty (8.46) both automatically qualified in the 60 hurdles.
