DII Weekend Review; Mt. Sac, Penn Relays and Drake Relays

The pressure is on to garner the automatic qualifying time for the 2010 DII Outdoor Championships. These past two weekends many athletes gained that ticket to the championships at some of the largest meets in the nation; Mt. Sac, Penn Relays and Drake Relays.I am going to review some of the automatic qualifying times from these meets. Help me feel in with the smaller meets by leaving a comment below. Mt. SAC- Metro State’s Anthony Luna ran a 1:49.10 to qualify in the men’s 800 meters. In the Olympic Development 1500 meters, Adams State’s Andrew Graham (3:43.70) and Chico’s Michael Wickman (3:44.03) both qualified. The men’s distance qualifiers kept coming with Adams State’s Reuben Mwei (13: 54) in Invitational5000 and in the Olympic Development 5000 meters, Abilene Christian’s Amos Sang (13:50.77) and Adams State’s Luke Cragg (13:54.65).  A

fter a miss start, Harding’s Daniel Kirwa qualified in the Invitational10k with a time of 29:24.09. Chico State’s Jimmy Elam ran a 29:38.21 in the Olympic Development heat. There were a host of qualifiers in the steeple chase including; Mwei(8:39.92), Western State’s Loren Ahonen (8:49.69), Glen Watts (8:59.77), David Flynn (9:01.81), and Tyler Rasmussen (9:01.87), Grand Valley State’s Tyler Emmorey (8:56.62) and Alaska Anchorage’s Micah Chelimo (8:49.31).

Adams State’s Indira Spence won the Olympic Development heat of the 200 meters with a time of 23.51. Grand Valley’s Chanelle Caldwell ran a 2:07.68 in the 800 meters. In one of the most exciting races of the night, Seattle Pacific’s Jessica Pixler battled to the line in the 1500 meter invitational with Washington’s Katie Follett to take second with a 4:11.06. Her teammate, Jane Larson ran a 4:26.54. The women’s 5k had plenty of qualifiers including; Grand Valley State’s Monica Kinney (16:37), Eileen Creutz (16:40.07),Megan Maceratini (16:45.91), Amy Kolin (16:45.01), Adams State’s Kristen McGlynn (16:37.35), and Chico State’s Tori Tyler (16:29.76).

 Western Washington’s mileage queen, Sarah Porter, took second in the 10k Olympic Development with a time of 34:30.21. Missouri Southern’s Kimi Shank (34:45.57), Western State’s Lauren Kleppin (35:07.42) and Alaska Anchorage’s Laura Carr(35:08.51) and Ruth Keino (35:09.26) also automatically qualified.  The steeplechase had just as many qualifiers with Western State’s Hillory Davis (10:26.90), Sarah Lyle (10:35.62), Adams State’s Alicia Nelson (10:26.98), Cassie Mitchell (10:33.17), Grand Valley State’s Karie McDonald (10:36.22) and Rebecca Winchester (10:44.97) in theOlympic Development heat. Qualifying in other heats of the steeplechase were Humboldt State’s Megan Rolland (10:30.84) Southern Indiana’s Mary Ballinger (10:34.64), Western Washington’sCourtney Olsen (10:42.55) and Colorado Mines’ Marie Patton (10:42.87).

Penn Relays- American International’s Glarius Rop took second in the10k run with a time of 29:39.25. St. Augustine’s 4x400 meter team took fifth in the championship with a time of 3:08.19. Shippensburg’s Neely Spence took fourth in the 5k championship with a time of 16:13.34. Mansfield’s Brenae Edwards (16:43.56), Queen’s Meagan Nedlo (16:44.30) and Dallas Baptist’s Hannah Steffan (16:55.16) also qualified in the 5k. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Kate Griewisch ran a 35:10.92 in the 10k. Shippensburg’s Mary Dell took fourth in thesteeplechase with a time of 10:26.90.

Drake Relays- Augustana’s Tom Karbo came in second with a 8:54.70 in the 3k steeple. Lincoln’s 4x100 meter team won the men’s race with a time of 40.13. Their men’s 4x400 team came in second with a time of 3:09.65.

Nebraska Omaha’s Anja Puc ran a 2:07.29 the 800 meters to qualify. Truman State’s Dani Dell’Orco (16:45.13) and Minnesota-Duluth’s Morgan Place (16:52.50) both qualified in the 5k. Lincoln took the4x400 meter win with a time of 3:38.55 and were followed by Nebraska-Omaha with a 3:41.2.
