DII Weekend Review Week 2

Second week of preseason meets happened this past weekend and many teams tested their summer fitness. There were a few teams of note that kicked off their Cross Country season this weekend. Almost all of the teams that did choose to open raced “down” in distance. Many of them ran 5Ks/6ks on the Men’s side and 4/5Ks on the Women’s Side. By next weekend almost all teams should have opened their Cross Country season and began their journey towards Dec 4th and Louisville. This week, Matthew took over reporting duties; let us know what you thought.

Men:

Joe I. Vigil Open: The Adams State Men dominated this race. Not only did they perfect score the meet but former Grizzly and current Hanson’s runner Brian Medigovich won the race. There were only 4 Athletes in the top 25 that weren’t Adams State Runners. Ryan McNiff ran as their # 1 and completed the 8k course in 24:34 (at Altitude)

Bobcat Invitational: The Augusta State Men took second in this 5-mile race. Their first place finisher was Simon Hoyden who ran 28:54

Central Washington Invitational:
The Western Washington men who come in ranked 10th preseason finished 2nd at this meet to The University of Great Falls. The WWU Men were lead by 6th place finisher Graham Armstrong who ran 20:27 for the 6k course.

Central Missouri Mule Run: Abilene Christian and Amos Sang opened this weekend as well. Sang lead his team to a strong victory as Abilene Christian placed 3 in the top 4. Sang was the overall winner in 20:09. Sang was followed closely by teammate and second place finisher Cleophas Tanui who ran 20:35.

Trinity Invitational: Stonehill Men made a strong showing here as they came away with a win. They were led by  Pat Fullerton who ran 15:54 for second place on the 5k course. Glorious Rop who won this race and ran 15:22 is on our list to watch this fall as a contender for the individual crown.

Women:

Joe I. Vigil Open: Much like the Men the Women of Adams State dominated this meet. They captured the first 8 spots, 6 of which were attached athletes. The Grizzlies were led by Kristin Mglynn who won in 17:01 on the 5k course.

Bobcat Invitational: The Augusta State Women won this meet with Holly Keeper leading the way with a 4th place finish in 20:25.

Central Washington Invitational:  With the void that was left with the graduation of Pixler from Seattle Pacific there is a question to who will step up and lead the team. This weekend at the Washington Invite that person was Freshmen Allison Cutting who covered the 6k course in 15:45. Although Cutting was able to win the race for her team the overall competition was dominated by the women of Western Washington. They took spots 2-6 and were led by Sophomore Mary Rogers in 16:05

Campus Quest 7: The Minnesota Duluth Women opened strong with a win at their first meet. They were led by Morgan Place who ran 18:11 to win the 5k race
