2010 FloAwards, Release #4

Our fourth release of the season is out after an exciting weekend of Conference battles around the country!  Flotrack was on hand for the PAC-10 Championships.  You can recap any of the action you missed at our XC Conference Central page.

The 2010 FloAwards are here and we are taking a look at the top teams, individuals and freshman in the country.  We will be following the results around the country each week in an effort to award those who are top in each category come November 22nd.

Stay tuned for our next release after Regional Weekend on Thursday, November 18th.

MEN Individual WOMEN Individual
1 Sam Chelanga 1 Lucy Van Dalen

Liberty
With an easy win at his conference championship, Chelanga will move on next to the Southeast Regional where he'll see Heineking and Hill, but still no real challenges for Chelanga.  We can't wait for Nov 22nd to see who will go with this guy!

Stony Brook
She remains the only undefeated runner we know after continuing her winning ways at the America East Championships.  out-leaning her sister at the line, Lucy probably won't see too much comp otherwise until NCAAs....

2  David McNeill 2  Sheila Reid
NAU
McNeill is back from India and looks to be over some stomach issue he had.  He took home another Big Sky Conference title this past weekend running with teammate Estrada.  We asked above who will go with Chelanga, here's your top candidate!

Villanova
Rockin the repeat!  Thats what Reid did this past weekend at the Big East Championships.  She beat tough competition in her teammate Marino and G'town's Infeld.  She has the duty of leading the Wildcats to a repeat national title so they'll need her up here to do so.

3 Chris Derrick 3 Rose Tanui

Stanford
He didn't repeat as PAC-10 Champ this year, but was right with the Stanford Trio.  After the race he said it felt tough and didn't look at smooth as Pre-Nats.  Nationals will be no easier, but this guy is tough so we're not too worried.
Texas Tech
Tanui makes the jump into the top three this week after winning the Big 12 by a big margin of 14 seconds.  Tanui has finish #1 in all of her races this year.  Her only loss?  Ari Fischer of Toledo.
Sleeper Jake Riley Sleeper Jordan Hasay
Stanford
Riley gets the nod for this week's sleeper stop based on the ease in which he finished at the PAC-10 Championships.  Riley looked like the leader of the Stanford squad over the final quarter mile and seems to be ready for the big show.

Oregon
Jordan had a close battle with Stanford's Kroeger for much of the PAC-10 Championships, but eventually pulled away comfortably over the final quarter mile of the PAC-10 Championships.  Will she challenge for the national title?  You better believe it!

MEN TEAM WOMEN TEAM
1 Stanford 1 Villanova
Cardinal
Could you imagine a team sweeping the top three spots at the PAC-10 Championships?  Well you don't have to because thats what we saw out in Seattle!  The Stanford Trio continues to steam roll the competition and whats even more impressive....6 in the top 11 with a 49 second spread between them.  How deep are they, how about 74 seconds between 1 and 9!
Wildcats
Nova dominates again winning the Big East title 26-42 over a very good Hoyas team.  The top 5 on this group is definitely the strongest we've seen this season but after that it drops quick. There is not much worry right now as the team has been very consistent over the season.  This group will face the Hoyas again the the Mid-Atlantic regional before getting to Terre Haute.
2  Oklahoma State 2 Texas Tech

Cowboys
This was a tough one.  Ranked #1 in the country, sweeping the top 4 spots at the Big 12,  and a tighter pack through 5 (38 secs), and an identical spread through 6 (49 secs) to Stanford.  What's holding them back from our #1 spot??  A couple reasons.  The Big 12 is weak up front this year.  Stanford's Trio beat the SEC and Heps champ, the whole Oregon team and all ran faster than Chelanga. OK State has been able to tempo most of their races up front so how accurate is their spread?  Until they are truly tested no one will really know.  And you know whats fun....that won't be until NCAAs!  Oh the anticipation!

Red Raiders
Tech gets the #2 spot this week after remaining undefeated and winning the Big 12 title.  The gap was close with Colorado though.  With the lack of depth in Villanova and how close everyone else seems to be, this is starting to look like it could be one of the closest team battles we've seen in a while at the NCAA Championships!

3  Oregon 3  Georgetown
Ducks
After Stanford and Ok State, there is a big gap to #3.  Oregon takes it again this week after a runner-up finish at the PAC-10 Championships.  Some of their guys may have go out a bit hard in Seattle so there is room to tighten up the pack.  They have experience performing well at the big show and this year will be no different.
Hoyas
This Georgetown is no joke!  They looked strong at Big East despite finishing second to Villanova and their depth is impressive.  Their top 7 are all within 58 seconds of Emily Infeld who was 8th last year at NCAA Championships.  If some teams slip up, this is a group that could very well be standing at the top of the podium on Nov 22nd.
Sleeper Wisconsin SleeperFlorida State
Badgers
Wisco looks real good after scoring a low 28 points at the Big Ten Champs with a 21 second gap between 1-5 and 42 between between 1-7.  They had no trouble with Indiana, who beat them earlier this season, and will face them again at the Great Lakes Regional.

Seminoles
The Seminoles didn't look as dominate as we've seen but was still able to win the ACC relatively easily.  58 seconds between 1 and 6 shows a good spread but they will need a better day from returning sophomore All-American Amanda Winslow to have a solid spot on that podium.

Under Armour
FLOFrosh (W)*

1 Erik Olson (214) 1 Laura Hoer (205)

Stanford
Olso has seen big improvements the past fews.  Only 53rd at Pre-Nats, Erik was the 11th at the PAC-10 Champs and the top frosh out west.  This guy would make most teams' top 5....except for his own.

NC State
Laura Hoer continues to impress each week and even received votes for the honors at the top of the page this week.  Hoer beat many past All-Americans this past weekend in winning the ACC title, including Pasca Cheryiout (15th last year) and Kendra Schaaf (2nd last year).  She goes into the Southeast Regional as the favorite next week.  The question is, can she stay poised when she returns to Terre Haute?

Jakub Zivec (69) 2 Emily Sisson (119)

Florida State
Jakub Zivec has arrived!  Finally finishing in a spot closer to where we had though at the beginning of the season, Zivec was 11th overall at the ACC Championships and 3rd for the #6 ranked FSU squad.  Like Sisson, he seems to be rounding into shape at the right time.

Wisconsin
Sisson is really rounding into shape at the right time as we saw her 3rd overall at the Big Ten Champs, a big step up from 14th at Wisco a few weeks back.  If Sisson continues to climb as she has she could take the honors here and even look at a potential top 20 finish...
 Brian Cantero (2)  3 Katie Flood (53)
Arkansas
Cantero has been under the radar most of the season and not even a choice for voting.  Cantero race a great race at the SEC Champs on Monday  finishing 8th overall and only 30 seconds behind Barnabus Kirui who was 4th last year at the NCAA Championships.  Should give this list a run for their money!

Washington
Flood was great at the PAC-10 Championships with her 6th place finish in Seattle!  Pretty ridiculous that only ranks her third on this list.  The Washington team will be motivated the next two weeks with the return of Babcock and seeing how close they were to the conference title.  Flood need to be good again and if she is, she'll help Washington surprise quite a few people.

Sleeper Jake Hurysz (71)
Sleeper Madeline Chambers (17)

UNC
Hurysz has been consistent as one of the top frosh prospects all season.  He finished second in the is category to Zivec by only 3 seconds.  He helped UNC to a 3rd place finish at the ACC Championships and a possible berth to NCAAs.  If he and his fellow frosh hold strong for the South East Regional, we should see Jake in Terre Haute competing for the FloFrosh!

Georgetown
Madeline Chambers looked strong at the Big East Champs in Syracuse this past weekend.  She beat fellow frosh Emily Lipari by 10 seconds to finish 8th overall and #3 on a very strong Georgetown team.
