D2 Review: Top 10 Team Conference Wrap Up

Conference wrap up

            This week’s edition of the review will cover only the conferences that had a team from the previous weeks top ten National Rankings. All other conferences can be found here.

 

CCAA   

            The Chico State men dominated their conference by scoring 16 points. Brent Handa led the way in 24:41. The Chico Men put 5 guys under 25:00 with their 7th at 25:19

            The Chico Women mirrored their male counter parts by giving an impressive performance. The women put 9 runners in the top ten. Kara Lubieniecki placed first overall in 21:30. The only spot the Chico women didn’t get was number 2. That went to Tiffany Dinh of Cal Poly Pomona in 21:37

Conference Carolina

            The Queens men had a solid showing scoring a perfect 15 points. Michael Crouch ran 23:55 and won by almost a minute over his fellow teammate Simon Suetzel. The first non-Queens finisher was Craig Simpkins of Lees-McRae College in 25:19

GLIAC   Men | Women

            The Laker Men took the first 5 spots with Anthony Witt leading the way in 24:47. The Lakers had 11 guys run 25:34 or faster, some nice depth. Cameron Johnson of Ashland was the first non-Laker finisher in 6th running 25:12

            The women’s race saw two top 10 teams battle. The Grand Valley women overcame the Ferris State women (9) with a score of 18-83. Megan Maceratini ran 21:19 and was followed closely by fellow teammate Katherine McCarthy in 21:36. The first non-GVSU finisher was Tina Muir of Ferris state in 21:27

GNAC    Men | Women

Marko Cheseto of Alaska Anchorage was the overall winner in 23:56. He led his team to a victory with a total of 41 points over Western Washington (11) who finished with 56. Jordan Welling led with way for WW by placing 5th in 24:34

            Sarah Porter of Western Wash got the narrow win in 21:04 over Alaska Anchorages Miriam Kipng’eno who ran 21:09. The Alaska  Anchorage women convincingly won with a total of 27 points over Washington’s 69.

 

 

Gulf South           

The Harding men seemingly ran easy with Daniel Kirwa getting the individual win in 25:15. He was followed by 2 fellow teammates in Phillip Biwott (25:36) and Wojiech Kopec (25:59). The Harding men won with a total of 24 points

 

NSIC

            This may have been the most exciting women’s conference of the weekend. Rankings were flipped 180 in this race as number 7 Minnesota Duluth fell to number 10 University of Mary who fell to number 18 ranked Augustana. Runa Felch a freshman from Augustana took the individual win in 21:11. Morgan Place of Minnesota – Duluth followed closely behind in 21:20. Freshmen Krisin Brondbo from Augustana stepped up big to get 3rd in 21:54. Melissa Agnew of U-Mary led her team with a 4th place finish in a time of 22:18.

PSAC   Men | Women

            The overall conditions of the course are unclear although it seems from reviewing the results the weather or terrain was difficult. Scott Anderson of Edinboro took the individual honors in 26:16. The next 4 spots were claimed by Shippensburg (6) who won the team title with 24 points. They were lead by second place finisher Stephen Schelander, Jr in a time of 26:20. The second place team LockHaven was led by 6th place finisher Alex Monroe, a freshmen, in a time of 26:23.

            The Shippensburg women were led by first place finisher Neely Spence who ran away from the field with a time of 20:52. Elicia Anderson of Millersville was second in 22:02. Mary Dell of Shippensburg came in 3rd in 22:14 to help her team to a score of 25 points. Edinboro finished second in the team scoring with 104 points.

RMAC   Men  | Women

            The toughest conference in the D2 country saw the number one team hold it’s ranking. Ryan McNiff led the Adams State Grizzlies in 23:50, they scored 30 points to beat Western State by 17. Aaron Swift placed second overall for the Miners in 23:54 but it wasn’t enough to upset the number 2 ranked Western State, who scored 47 points. Ryan Haebe placed 5th overall and ran 24:03 led them.

            For the second time in a row the Adams State women have showed some weakness losing to a lower ranked team. The Western State women were able to top the Grizzlies, 31-42. Alexis Skarda from Mesa State took the individual honors in 20:22. Sophie McNeely led the Western State with a 3rd place finish in 21:11. Kristin McGlynn was second overall in 20:36.
