D2 Review: Regional Wrap Up

Championship season kicked off strong with the various regions across the country. The Regional Central can be found here. I will be on hand in Louisville for the National Championships bringing you interviews pre and post race. Stay tuned for details.
Lockhaven won the men’s team title with 28 points. Nathan Zondlo who won in 31:30 led them. Scott Anderson was 2nd overall in 31:33 but his team was 3rd. Shippensburg placed second with Bryan Beegle as their first scorer in 6th place with a 31:48.
Neely Spence dominated the field winning the individual title in 20:46. Her women’s team captured the overall title with 33 points over second place Kutztown who had 119. Elicia Anderson of Millersville placed second overall in 21:38.
Despite winning the individual title, Ben Zwicki’s team placed 3rd overall. Luckily the Central region has 5 bids total, (2 autos + 3 for the top 3 teams that placed within the top 8 from the previous year) The Adams State men won with 29 points and were paced by Luke Cragg who was 3rd in 31:08. Western State was second with 58 points; Sean Brown led them in 2nd place with a 31:03. Other qualifying teams were Augustana, Colorado Mines and Metropolitan State.
Kristin McGlynn won in 20:53 and led a narrow victory of rivals Western State, (45-48) Alexis Skarda from Mesa State was second in 21:01. Lauren Kleppin led Western State with a 21:13
UMass Lowell took the team title over Stonehill (41 -72) and was led by Jeff Veiga who won in 30:08. Glorious Rop of American International was second in 30:28. Pat Fullerton who ran 31:14 and was 5th led Stonehill who placed second as a team.
Stonehill placed 1st over College of St. Rose (42-131). Jeptui Cherutich of American International was the overall winner in 22:18. Kristen Mahoney was 4th overall in 22:59 and led her team to a victory. Ashley Jackman who was 6th and ran 23:00 led her team to a second place finish.
Tyler Emmorey of Grand Valley won the indivdual crown in 30:58 and led his team to a 21 – 81 win over 15th ranked Southern Indiana. Grand Valley captured 3 of the top 5 spots. The first non GV finisher was Drury’s Jaime Villa Zapatero in 3rd at 31:03. Drury and Bellarmine also advanced to the NCAA championships as a team.
Christina Muir of Ferris State won in 21:05. Despite her individual victory Ferris State lost to GV 79- 26. Grand Valley’s first finisher was Katherine McCarthy in 21:10.
Amos Sang from Abilene Christian took individual honors in 30:42, with his team placing second behind Central Missouri (119-105). Laban Sialo was 2nd overall in 31:12 and paced his team to the overall victory.
Jennifer Butler was 3rd overall in 22:25 for Pittsburgh State who ended up winning the team title (66-108) over Midwestern State. Anai Belledant of Abilene Christian was the overall winner in 22:14. Followed by Anja Puc of Nebraska – Omaha in 22:23
Daniel Kirwa of Harding took the individual honors in 30:29 and also led his team to a 4-point victory over Florida Southern (46-50) Phillip Biwott was second in 30:53. Eric Larson paced his Florida Southern team with 5th-place finish in 32:23
Tampa took the overall title beating Alabama Huntsville (42-89). Heather Nicolosi (Tampa) was first in 20:51 followed by Jeniffer Cherono (Alabama-Huntsville) 21:23.
Meshack Koyiak of Columbus St won in over Michael Crouch of Queens in 29:45. Crouch, placing second, paced his team to an overall win. (36-79) over Columbus State.
Kate Griewisch from Lenoir-Rhyne took the individual honors in 20:55. Kimone Hewitt and Maraya Slatter of Queens went 2, 3 to lead the women to a victory over King (40-91)
West Men | Women
Alaska Anchorage men got a narrow victory over Chico State. Marko Cheseto took individual honors in 31:20. Isaac Chavez and Brent Handa went 4, 5 for Chico to lead the team victory (49-54)
The team race on the women’s side shaped up similar. With Alaska Anchorage taking the victory over Chico in a close battle (40-55). Sarah Porter (Western Washington) had a dominating performance, 21:21, over Ruth Keino (Alaska Anchorage), 22:01. The Western Washington Women placed 3rd overall.
