2011 Mobile Challenge of Champions Preview

Quite possibly the definitive pole-vault field and some of the deepest sprint races in the country are in store at the 2011 Mobile Challenge of Champions. The Mobile, Alabama meet features 17-foot vaulters, a stacked boys 110-meter hurdles field, and a 200 stable that includes multiple state champions from across the South.
In addition to Brodrick Snoddy (Carrolton, Ga), the meet features Junior Olympian Aaron Ernest and the man with the nation's fastest time currently, Bradley Sylve. The three burners from Louisiana, Georgia and Alabama square off in what figures to be a terrific 200 meter battle across state lines. For Snoddy and Ernest, it will be a rematch of last week's dual at Homewood. Snoddy has signed with Georgia Tech, with Ernest committed to LSU.
Likewise, the women's 200 field features 3 state champions from 3 different states, creating intra-state rivalries that are sure to excite.
Always strong at the meet, the sprint relays will feature the aforementioned stars and several other talented squads.
On the distance side, the 800 should be a fun one to keep an eye out for, as Cameron Thornton of Mapleton, Georgia brings a 1:52 PR into the meet. Look for competition from a deep field.
Overall, however, the sprints will be the marquee events at this year's Challenge of Champions. For more information on the meet click here.
