Races to Watch

In the girls 3200, 3 of the top 50 runners in the country will battle for the state title. Madi McLellan of The Woodlands comes in with the top time at 10:42.70, with Rachel Baptista of Austin (10:45.02) and Rachel Johnson of Plano (10:46.49) just back. 

The boys race could be even better, with Nationally renowned distance runner Craig Lutz of Marcus coming it at #4 in the country. Although Lutz has run 8:55.10 this year, his official seed time coming in is only 9:10. Expect his biggest challenger to be Mark Pinales of Round Rock Stony Point (9:07.68). You may recall a battle between the two at this year's Texas Relays, with Lutz pulling away for a 3 second win. The overall field is strong, with 3 sub-9:20's coming in.

In the 4A race, Will Antkowiak of Brenham could dominate. He comes in more than 13 seconds faster than the next runner, Travis Barclay of Boerne Champion (9:09.07 to 9:22.93).

The boys 4x100 features 6 schools under 41.8, with Galena Park the favorites after their 40.71 at Regionals, ranking them #3 in the Nation.

Meanwhile, the girls 4x100 will be something special. The state of Texas owns 10 of the top 25 4x100 times in the country, as well as 3 of the top 10! Desoto has a 46.34 best, while Garland, Mansfield Timberview, Duncanville, Houston Lamar and Fort Bend Hightower gave all broken 47 this year. Unbelievable depth in this race.

The boys 800 will feature the #5 800 runner in the country, Kyle Thompson of Killeen Harker Heights squaring off against #13 Sean Canavin of Marcus. Could the 1:51 barrier be in danger here?!

Regardless, the winner may not even be the fastest in Texas, as the 4A race could be even faster. In the 4A boys 800, #3 National runner, Daniel Tarango of El Paso Burges looks to top #15 Ramon Garcia of El Paso Austin. Tarango comes in with a 1:51.09 seed time, as Tarango has a 1:52.18 season's best.

Who will be the fastest 800 runner in Texas at the end of the weekend?

In the boys 110 hurdles, Kenneth Minkah comes in as the heavy favorite, having run a 13.65 at Regionals (#4 in the Nation). His time sits almost half a second over the next best in the field, a 14.08 from Randolph Bermea of Harlingen.

In the girls 100, US top-20 sprinters Kiersten Brewer, Jennifer Madu, and India Daniels face off. It could be anyone's race, as the field includes 5 runners at 11.83 or better.

On the boys side, Jaylon Hicks (10.26w) leads a stacked field. Eric Hawkins and Cameron Burrell share 10.39w times, and Jakeem Grant ran a 10.41 for Mesquite Horn. Look for the winner to possible break 10.3.

The boys 400 will be a head to head battle between the nation's #5 400 runner, Richard Gary of Duncanville (46.79), and #3 Aldrich Bailey of Mansfield Timberview (46.53). If it's anything like the showdown we saw in Florida last week between #1 and #2 Arman Hall and Hugh Graham Jr, it should be exciting. Can Bailey or Gary break Hall's leading 46.22 from the Florida State Championships? 

Likewise, the boys 300 hurdles are unreal. The nation's #2, #7 and #8 runners will battle it out for the state title, in Desoto's Kenneth Minkah, Harlingen's Randy Bermea and San Antonio Warren's Gregory Coleman.

In the girls race, Ashley Burris of Mansfield Timberview comes in as the heavy favorite, ranked #7 in the Nation.

The girls 200 is loaded, with 5 of the top 17 in the country competing. Keondra Mallard of Mansfield Timberview, Dephanie Adeyemi of Flower Mound and Taylor Houston of Ft. Bend Elkins all come in with sub 24's.

Jermaine Authorlee of GP North Shore, #5 in the country with his 21.01, leads a talented field in the boys 200. 8 of the 9 runners have run sub 22, with 5 having run 21.42 or better! 

Southlake Carroll and Lewisville square off in the 4x400. They are ranked #4 and #7 in the country, respectively. Also, don't sleep on the #12 team in the country, Duncanville. We could see a winner close to 3:10 here.

The girls race will be much of the same, as Desoto, Mansfield Timberview and Houston Lamar all enter the weekend in the top-10 nationally.
