Poll: Who Will Break the American Record in the 10k at Pre Classic?

Last year Chris Solinsky surprised everyone and broke the American Record in the 10k (in his debut) with a stunning last 800 meters at the Payton Jordan Invite. But did you know Galen Rupp also broke the old mark? Rupp also ran in front of the pack for most of the race.

The Pre Classic is set up to be another dramatic race - this will be the first 10k of the season for both Rupp and Solinsky, though both have run other races. Solinsky showed off some speed with a 1500m PR of 3:35.89 at Mt. Sac in April, while Rupp displayed his strength with a 1:00:30 at the NYC half marathon in March.

Both of these guys will be sharp and ready to run - and for the first time at Pre Classic, this race will be on Friday night under the lights at Hayward Field. The temps will be cool and wind will be down, and the field is stacked with lots of sub-28 minutes guys and two pacers to take the lead.

Everything is set up for this record to go down! But you never know... Despite the best-laid plans, pacing can still be off, and how about the dreary weather Oregon's had recently? Right now it looks like it'll cooperate, with a forecast high of 71, and just a 20% chance of precipitation.

What do you think? Will Rupp beat out Solinsky for the new record? Will Solinsky defend his rank as America's top 10k runner? Let us know!

It's going down Friday night at historic Hayward Field!
