2011 New Balance Nationals

2011 marks the Second year under new title sponsor New Balance, and the weekend looks to be primed with some of the fastest high school athletes in the country. The top high school track programs in the country will pour onto the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro to see who are the top dogs in the U.S.
G 100/200m
Fresh off her Dream Mile victory in New York, junior Octavious Freeman of Lake Wales, FL looks to continue her sprint dominance as she enters the meet with the top seed time of (11.21). She is also the defending champion and set the meet record last year with an 11.27. This will be Freeman’s last chance to break the National record of 11.11 (Angela Williams 1998)
B 100m
Raleigh Junior Sean McClain is the defending champ in this race, running a 10.48. Sean will go have to hold off Homewood AL senior Aaron Ernest who has thrown down a 10.17 this year. McClain was second last week in the Dream 100 in New York, while Earnest was 7th
B 200/400m
Arman Hall will be gunning for titles in both the 200 and 400. Nationally, he sits at #2 in the 200 (20.82) and #1 in the 400 (46.22). Hall was also the winner of the Brooks PR invitational in February. Hall will have to try and take down Ernest in the 200 who comes in with a season best of 20.86.
G 800
Amy Weissenbach is coming off a National record time of 2:02.04 (High School only Competition) two weeks ago at the California state meet. Only a junior, she already has two California 800m titles under her belt and is sure to have her eyes fixed on Chanelle Price’s meet record of 2:02.76.
B 800
The third section of the 800 looks to be a barn burner as the top three times in the country will toe the line (Mudd- 1:49.25 Wanliss 1:49.61 Thorton 1.49.62) Mudd just broke through in the Mile last weekend in New York with a PR of 4:01.83 after a blistering final 100 kick good enough for 2nd just off of Verzbicas.
B Mile
Jantzen Oshier will have one last chance to go sub 4 this season, going 4 flat for 1600 at the Cali state meet and finishing 5th in 4:06 at the Dream Mile last weekend he hopes to bounce back and pull out all the stops for his final race.

The top 3200m runners of the year will be gunning for Molly Huddle’s 2002 Meet and National record of 10:01.08. Aisling Cuffe of Cornwall, NY and Kayla Beattie of Woodstock, IL both come in with 3200m times of 9:56. Cuffe is a both Foot Locker and USATF Junior National champ in xc. Beattie was 2nd in 2 mile at the Brooks PR invite and was 6th (4:45) at the Dream Mile last week. Wesley Frazier of Raleigh will also be in the thick of it. Frazier won the 2 mile at the Brooks PR meet in 10:17.47.
B 2Mile
Two time California XC champion Ammar Moussa of Arcadia looks to be the front runner with a 3200 seed time of 8:49.59. The Rosa twins of NJ will be in the same section and are sure to be anxious to get after a 3200 after being cut off with one lap to go at the NJ state meet due to lightning. Joe just happen to be on pace to set a state record at the time. All three faced off last weekend in the Jim Ryan Mile with Joe 8th Ammar 9th and Jim 13th.
G 5k
Haley Pierce ( Willmington DE) really burst on to the national high school spotlight after winning the 3k at Penn 9:16, taking down Aisling Cuffe. At the DE indoor state meet she ran th fastest 3200m time in the country at the time and last week she was 8th in the Dream Mile in NY. Wesly Frazier is also entered in this race, trying to grab two National titles in front of her home state crowd.
B 5k
Edward Chesereck seems to be rolling right now as he ran a 4:03 at the Dream Mile, and 4:05 split at Penn. He has shown some serious range this year with his 9:42 indoor 2mile and great xc season. The meet record of 14:32 is well within reach of this talented Field.
As always, this meet is chalk full of stacked Relays 4x100 4x200 4x400 4x800 800SM 1600SM and Distance Med. You can always bank on National relay records set every year. Many of the elite runners already at this meet will hopping into relays. The Rosa twins will be competing in the DMR and Elias Gedyon will be on a 4xmile squad. St. Thomas Aquinas and NW Florida TC are sure to impress in the B 4x400.
The action starts today at 1:30 ET with the 5k final capping things off at 7:55pm.
