Sutej second at World University Games

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tina Sutej, a member of the University of Arkansas women’s track and field team, finished second in the pole vault at the World University Games Friday in Shenzen, China. The Razorback standout earned the silver medal with a final clearance of 4.55 meters (14-11).

Competing for her home country Slovenia, Sutej cleared the first five heights without a miss upon entering the competition at 4.10m. The clearance is the second best of her career, trailing only her NCAA-record mark of 4.61m (15-1.5) set in May at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championships in Athens, Ga.

During the 2011 season, Sutej was the NCAA Indoor champion, won a pair of SEC titles and named the USTFCCCA National Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. Both of her conference wins came on collegiate-record performances. She finished the collegiate season with 13 victories in 14 competitions. In recognition of her outstanding 2011 campaign, Sutej was named a finalist for The Bowerman, an award which will be handed out Dec. 14 in San Antonio.
