NEW ORLEANS
 – On Tuesday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its week one national cross country coaches’ poll for the 2011 NCAA Division I season. Oklahoma State’s men and Georgetown’s women retain the top spot once again while Wisconsin’s men nudged Stanford from the No. 2 spot in this week’s poll.

 

AROUND THE POLLS

MEN
– Indiana moved up to No. 7, tying an all-time best ranking. The Hooisers finished seventh at last fall’s NCAA Cross Country Championships.
– Minnesota was the biggest mover, gaining three spots in a move to No. 24
– North Carolina joined the Top 30 for the first time this season at No. 30
– The Big East again is the conference leader with six schools in the top 30. The Big Ten and ACC follow with four.

WOMEN
– Despite losing their first-place vote, New Mexico stayed at No. 2
– No. 4 Colorado has a first-place vote for the first time this season
– The largest gain of the week went to West Virginia who stands at No. 20 after being ranked 24th in the preseason
– The ACC has six teams to lead all conferences in the women’s top 30, followed by the Big East, Big Ten, and Pac-12 which have five each.

 

The NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be held on Monday, November 21, in Terre Haute, Ind. NCAA Regional Championships will be held nine days prior on Saturday, November 12.
