Georgetown Takes the Crown as FSU Stumbles
Georgetown was tied for second going into Monday's action at the 2011 NCAA XC Championship and they were ready if number one ranked FSU did not come ready for a battle. FSU ranked high all year did not show up to win a title and finished fourth leaving it for Georgetown to take the victory with 162 points. Washington moved up a couple spots to take second with 170 points, then came Villanova with 181, FSU finished with 189 and Oregon finished the top five with 281.
Shiela Reid took the individual title in a sprint over the final 400 meters. Fjortoft from SMU was leading for over half the race until Reid, Hasay and a pack of about five runners company ate her up. There was a tight pack all the way until the finish line until Reid got the win. The top six ladies were all within 5 seconds.
