MenÂ’s track and field announces 2012 schedule
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s track and field team will host eight meets—five indoor and three outdoor—as part of its 2012 schedule. All home indoor events will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center while outdoor events in
Fayetteville will be contested at John McDonnell Field. Head coach Chris Bucknam is in his fourth season at the helm of the Razorback cross country and track and field program.
Arkansas opens the indoor season with three consecutive home meets, beginning Jan. 6 with the Arkansas Invitational. The following weekend, the Razorbacks continue their
series with the University of Texas in a Jan. 13 dual meet. Arkansas closes out its season-opening home stand Jan. 27-28 with the Razorback Invitational. The two-day event is also scheduled to feature teams from Arizona, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa,
LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, TCU and Texas.
The indoor season continues with a pair of road competitions Feb. 3-4 with the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and Feb. 4 with the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix
in Boston, Mass. The Razorbacks return home Feb. 10-11 for the Tyson Invitational.
The indoor championship season begins Feb. 24-26 with the 2012 SEC Indoor Championships in Lexington, Ky. The Arkansas Last Chance meet will be held March 2 in preparation
for the national meet. The 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.
Three weeks later, the outdoor season gets under way with the Texas Relays. The annual track and field festival will be contested March 28-31 in Austin, Texas. The Razorbacks
will also host a home event March 31 with the Arkansas Spring Invitational to begin the outdoor campaign.
The next three competitions will take Arkansas out west, beginning April 6-7 with the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. The following weekend, the Razorbacks
will compete at the Arizona State Tri-Meet in Tempe. Arkansas returns to California for the Mt. SAC Relays which will be held April 18-21 in Walnut. That same weekend (April 20-21), the Razorbacks will host the two-day John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville.
The prestigious Penn Relays will be contested April 26-28 in Philadelphia. The Razorbacks will close out their home slate May 4 with the Arkansas Twilight.
Arkansas will head to Baton Rouge, La., for the 2012 SEC Outdoor Championships in defense of its 2011 outdoor conference crown. The SEC meet will be held May 11-13.
The Razorbacks return to Austin May 24-26 for the NCAA West Preliminary. After the qualifying meet, Arkansas will wrap up its season June 6-9 at the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Following the collegiate season, several Razorbacks will continue competition into the summer months. The USA Junior Championships will be held June 15-17 in Bloomington,
Ind., while the USA Championships, also doubling as the 2012 Olympic Trials, will be contested June 22-July 1 in Eugene, Ore. The track and field competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London will be held Aug. 3-12.
