WomenÂ’s track and field 2012 schedule set

 

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Head coach Lance Harter, in his 22nd season with the Razorback cross country and track and field program, has announced his team’s track and field schedule. Arkansas will host four indoor meets and three outdoor meets during the 2012 season. All home indoor events will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center while outdoor events in Fayetteville will be contested at John McDonnell Field.

The Razorbacks begin the season on their home track Jan. 6 with the Arkansas Invitational. The next two weekends find Arkansas on the road Jan. 13-14 at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky., and Jan. 21 with the JD Martin Invitational Duals in Norman, Okla. Arkansas returns to Fayetteville Jan. 27-28 for the Razorback Invitational. The two-day event is also scheduled to feature teams from Arizona, Baylor, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, Stanford, TCU and Texas.

The New Balance Collegiate Invitational will be held Feb. 3-4 in New York while the annual Tyson Invitational is scheduled Feb. 10-11 in Fayetteville.

The championship season begins two weeks later, opening with the 2012 SEC Indoor Championships which will be contested Feb. 24-26 in Lexington. With a final opportunity to qualify for the national meet, the Arkansas Last Chance is set for March 2. The 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships will take place March 9-10 in Boise, Idaho.

The Razorbacks are scheduled for a pair of competitions during the opening weekend of the outdoor season with the Texas Relays held March 28-31 in Austin, Texas, and the Arkansas Spring Invitational scheduled for March 31 in Fayetteville. Arkansas heads west for a trio of meets April 6-7 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., April 13-14 at the Arizona State Tri-Meet in Tempe, and April 19-21 at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.

The team hosts a two-day event April 20-21 with the John McDonnell Invitational. The following weekend, the Razorbacks will split to compete April 26-28 at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Several members of the team will also travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for the April 29 Payton Jordan Invitational. The final home meet is scheduled for May 4 with the Arkansas Twilight.

The outdoor championship season gets under way May 11-13 with the 2012 SEC Outdoor Championships in Baton Rouge, La. The NCAA West Preliminary will take place May 24-26 in Austin, Texas. Two weeks later, the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships will cap the collegiate season June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Several Razorbacks will continue their season into the summer months. The USA Junior Championships will be held June 15-17 in Bloomington, Ind., while the USA Championships, also doubling as the 2012 Olympic Trials, will be contested June 22-July 1 in Eugene, Ore. The track and field competition at the 2012 Olympic Games in London will be held Aug. 3-12.
