Trevor Dunbar to transfer to Oregon
Trevor Dunbar to transfer to Oregon
On Sunday Flotrack posted a video entitled 2012 NCAA XC Predictions. The video started a lot of chatter about potential shifts and changes with different athletes over the next year. One of these athletes was Trevor Dunbar, the current redshirt-sophomore on the track at the University of Portland.
Rumors began circulating about Dunbar transferring to the University of Oregon to join the Duck's squad. As we heard more talk/texts/messages about the possibly move we contacted our various sources and received confirmation that Trevor Dunbar will be transferring to the University of Oregon. He'll be hopping on I-5 to make the move from Portland to Eugene for the next school term. Details of his eligibility status when he arrives in Eugene are currently unknown. If Dunbar is not "released" by the University of Portland then he would have to sit out through the 2012 cross country season, meaning he would not be able to compete in an Oregon uniform. If he is released then he would be eligible to participate for the Ducks in the upcoming 2012 indoor season.
The addition couldn't have come at a better time for the Oregon Ducks who recently took two major hits on their program with the loss of Lukas Verzbicas to triathlon and World Bronze Medalist Matt Centrowitz, who has decided to turn professional.
Most recently, Dunbar earned All-American honors at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships with a 35th place finish as he helped the Portland Pilots to an eighth place team finish (full results). Dunbar's best highest finish came during his sophomore season in 2010 where he finished 25th in Terre Haute. On the track Trevor holds a 5k PR of 13:42, but he was made "famous" in 2008 when he ran 9:01 in a 3200 meters time trial in an Alaskan snow storm as a senior in high school.
