UO Recruiting Classes Ranked No. 2 by Track & Field News
Ranking comes on the heels of the Ducks’ No. 1 classes in 2010.
EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon’s 2011 men’s and women’s recruiting classes have been ranked second nationally by Track & Field News.
This year’s rankings come on the heels of the Ducks’ top-ranked recruiting classes of a year ago.
Oregon’s 2011 men’s signees include distance runners Chris Brewer, Jeramy Elkaim, Russell Hornsby, Matt Jablonski, Chad Noelle and Ryan Pickering, sprinters Arthur Delaney, Jack Galpin and Joeal Hotchkins, hurdler Johnathan Cabral, decathlete Alec Fellows and hammer thrower Greg Skipper.
The women’s signees include sprinter/jumper Jenna Prandini, distance runners Molly Grabill and Allie Woodward, middle distance standout Claudia Francis, heptathlete Alyssa Monteverde, pole vaulter Anginae Monteverde and high jumpers Lauren Crockett and Chancey Summers.
Prandini, Anginae Monteverde, Cabral and Skipper were recently named 2011 Track & Field News prep All-Americans. Prandini was a three-time selection in the sprints and long jump, while Cabral was a two-time choice in the hurdles.
All but Hotchkins will be freshmen for the Ducks during the 2012 season. Hotchkins, a transfer, will be a junior.
Oregon trailed only Texas in the men’s rankings and Stanford for the women.
After Oregon on the men’s list, the rest of the top 10 was Texas A&M, Arkansas, Harvard, Stanford, Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin and Louisiana State.
For the women, USC was third behind the Ducks, followed by Texas A&M, Clemson, LSU, Texas Tech, Florida, Florida State and Central Florida.
The complete rankings by the “Bible of the Sport,” including recruit-by-recruit listings for each school, will be available in the January issue of Track & Field News, which hits newsstands in the coming days.
