LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track and field teams completed day one of the Gladstein Invitational late Friday evening in Bloomington, Ind., at the Gladstein Fieldhouse, with three top-five finishes.

Sophomore Maggie Gilbertson registered one of the team’s top performances of the day and became Louisville’s 17th BIG EAST qualifier on the women’s side. She cleared a collegiate-best 1.73m/5-8, tying for second among collegiate competitors while finishing tied for third overall behind former Cardinal All-American, Rachel Gehret.

For the first this season, sophomore Kim Cardeiro and junior Gabrielle Jackson competed in the pentathlon. It was Cardeiro’s first time participating in the five-event schedule, and she placed ninth overall, while Jackson took 11th. Cardeiro’s best finish came in the high jump, taking second after clearing 1.61m/5-3.25. Jackson, meanwhile, had four sixth-place showings: the 60m hurdles, the high jump, the shot put and the 800m.

On the men’s side, freshman Calvin Arsenault posted his fourth top-five finish this season in the 60m hurdles. He clocked a season-best time of 8.19 to take fifth overall and qualify for Saturday’s final in the event.

The Cardinals resume action on Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Gladstein Invitational, with Arsenault beginning the day in the 60m hurdles finals at 11:45 a.m. ET. Also competing on the second and final day are Taylor Caldwell, Seon Powell and Wesley Smith – all in the long jump – and Ahlivia Spencer in the 800m.
