Indiana Runs WorldÂ’s All-Time Fifth-Fastest Indoor DMR

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The menÂ’s distance medley relay invitational was anticipated as the most exciting race on day one at the Hoosier Hills Invitational, and it did not disappoint, as IndianaÂ’s group of DeÂ’Sean Turner, Chris Vaughn, Daniel Stockberger and Andy Bayer ran the fifth-fastest time ever recorded indoors. Competition also began at the SPIRE NCAA DI Invitational in Ohio on Friday.
 
The Hoosier quartet combined for a world-leading time of 9:29.12. The time is tied for the fifth fastest on the all-time world indoor list, the third fastest all-time indoors by an group of Americans, and tied for fourth fastest in indoor collegiate history. Turner set the race up, splitting 2:54.3 on the leadoff 1,200m-long leg. He handed off to Vaughn who ran a split of 46.9 on the 400m leg and handed off to Stockberger, who went 800m in 1:51.0. Bayer brought the baton home in 3:56.9 on the 1,600m anchor leg.
 
In the womenÂ’s 600m, IU went 1-2 with Jordan Gray winning in 1:31.96 and Ruth Christopher taking second in 1:32.36. ChristopherÂ’s time is the ninth best in IU history.
 
In the womenÂ’s mile Helene Delone took the win in 5:02.44, shedding six seconds off her career best. Brie Roller was second in the 800 meters, finishing in 2:17.13.
 
Nick Turner advanced to SaturdayÂ’s final in the 60m dash, clocking a preliminary time of 7.02 seconds.
 
In Ohio, Ann-Marie Clarke took fifth in the womenÂ’s pentathlon with a score of 3,609 points. The score is the seventh best in IU history.
