Big Wins for Kind Butler in Ohio

GENEVA, Ohio - Kind Butler moved to the Big Ten lead in the 60 meters and 200 meters, winning both events at the SPIRE NCAA DI Invitational. Butler bettered some of the nationÂ’s best sprinters in the meet. Indiana also got big performances from Darius King and Ryan Hindes at the meet.
 
Butler won the 200m in 20.85, posting a meet record and the second-best time in Division I this season.
An improvement of .08 on his career best, the time puts him second in IU history and within .04 of the IU record held by Olympian David Neville.  Butler bettered Florida StateÂ’s Maurice Mitchell in the race, who was the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Champion in the event and the runner-up at the distance at the 2011 indoor national meet. He also beat Florida StateÂ’s Horatio Williams, who took third in the 200 at the outdoor national meet in 2011.
 
Butler the 60m finals in 6.68 seconds, taking the lead in the Big Ten this season and moving into a tie for 15th nationally. Butler is within .01 of his career best, which is the IU record. Nick Stoner took ninth in 6.88, which moves him into ninth in IU history.                  
 
King took the win in the high jump with a 1.5 inch improvement on his career mark. King cleared 2.18m (7-1.75) on his first attempt. The clearance is good for fifth in IU history, ties him for the Big Ten lead and ties him for 18th in Div. I this season.
 
Hindes ran a time of 1:49.59 in the 800 for seventh place. The time is tied for the second-fastest in IU history. Hindes time is .01 out of the school record and ranks sixth in the Big Ten this season. In three-straight weekends, Hindes has posted the second-fastest time in IU history in the 600 meters, 500 meters and now 800 meters. Collectively between his three times, he is within .21 of owning three IU records.
 
Aireonna Bailey ran a career best of 7.64 in the 60 meters, which ranks sixth in IU history.
 
Dan Galos took third in the weight throw with a heave of 19.24m (63-1.5). The mark is a foot and three inches better than his previous career best and moves him into fifth in IU history.
