Theophille Leads Louisville Track and Field at Virginia Tech Final Qualifier

Michelle Theophille’s high jump mark of 1.82m/5-11.50 is tied for 14th-best nationally.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Michelle Theophille recorded a personal-best mark and tied the school record in the high jump to lead the University of Louisville track and field teams on Saturday at the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.

 

A junior from Whitby, Ontario, Theophille registered her second victory of the season in the high jump after clearing 1.82m/5-11.50 on her first attempt. Rachel Gehret originally set the school record (1.82m/5-11.50) in 2009. Theophille’s jump currently is tied for 14th-best nationally.

 

Charachesicia Lockhart also had a strong performance, winning the long jump competition (6.10m/20-0.25) and placing fourth in the triple jump behind a personal-best leap of 12.70m/4-18.

 

In the throwing events, Amashi Kendall took second in the shot put and weight throw events, while Khadija Abdullah placed fourth in the shot put. Kendall improved her upon her shot put mark by more than a foot, heaving it 16.43m/53-11. She currently is ranked 13th in the weight throw despite not enhancing her mark.

 

On the men’s side, Michael Edwards took runner-up in the men’s high jump, soaring over the bar at 2.13m/6-11.75.

 

The final event of the season, the NCAA Indoor Championships, takes place March 9-10 at Jacksons Indoor Track at the Idaho Sports Center in Nampa, Idaho.
