Razorbacks close weekend at Notre Dame

 

            FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 2-ranked University of Arkansas men’s track and field team got a personal-best performance Saturday from Drew Butler in the 800 meters at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind. The meet represented the Razorbacks’ final competition before the national meet next weekend. Butler was one of just four Razorbacks in action Saturday.

            Running in heat five of the 800 meters, Butler finished in fifth place overall with a personal-best time of 1:48.65. With his effort, he took more than a second off his previous career mark of 1:49.71 set earlier this season at the Meyo Invitational, also in South Bend. Arkansas’ results in the event also included a seventh-place finish for Anthony Lieghio (1:49.34) and Duncan Phillips in 34^th place overall (1:52.44).

            In the mile, Rick Elliott crossed the finish line in a time of 4:06.58 and had a 13^th-place finish. The time is the second fastest of the season for Elliott at that distance.

            On day one of the Alex Wilson Invitational, the Razorbacks’ distance-medley relay team of Lieghio, Travis Southard, Leoman Momoh and Patrick Rono combined for a time of 9:31.48. The performance is currently the No. 8 DMR time in the NCAA this season.

The NCAA declared entries list is scheduled to be released Monday evening. The 2012 NCAA Indoor Championships will be contested March 9-10 at the Jacksons Track in Nampa, Idaho.
