March 13, 2012
NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announces the 147 men and 134 women that earned USTFCCCA All-America distinctions for the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field season. A total of 351 awards will be given as a result of performances at the past weekend’s NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Mankato, Minn.
The top-ranked Grand Canyon men and Grand Valley State women each won national titles. Grand Canyon won their first NCAA indoor track & field title in only their second year of existence as a program. GVSU’s women won their second-straight national crown in indoor track & field.
In terms of All-America honors, Ashland led all men’s teams with 14 All-America nods, followed by Southern Connecticut (13), UMass Lowell (10), Grand Canyon (9), and Findlay (9). Grand Valley State notched 20 All-America nods to lead all women’s programs. GVSU was followed by Adams State (16), Lincoln (Mo.) (10), and Grand Canyon (9).
The Northeast-10 had the most men’s All-America honors among conferences with 35, followed by the GLIAC (33) and RMAC (29). The GLIAC, with 48 All-America certificates, led on the women’s side with the RMAC (24), MIAA (24), and CIAA (21) following.
Southern Connecticut’s Selasi Lumax and Saint Augustine’s Josh Edmonds were the only men to earn three All-America certificates. Lumax was a member of Southern Connecticut’s 4x400 and DMR squads and finished third in the 800 meters. Edmonds anchored Saint Augustine’s to a NCAA crown in the 4x400 to add to his third-place finish in the 400 and sixth-place nod in the 200.
Adams State’s Indira Spence was the only woman to notch four All-America honors. Spence led the Grizzlies with 19 team points, earning a trio of third-place finishes in the 60 meters, 200 meters, and 60-meter hurdles to go with a sixth-place showing with the 4x400 relay.
To earn All-America honors, athletes must have scored any portion of a team point at the NCAA Indoor Championships. USTFCCCA membership by a program is required to earn All-America awards.
