Florida Relays Start Well for IU
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Relays opened competition on Friday and the Hoosiers had a fast start. Leading the way for IU was Kelsie Ahbe, who was the collegiate winner in the womenÂ’s pole vault, Kind Butler, who posted fast times in the 200 and 400, Danny Stockberger, who took second in the 1,500m.
Ahbe cleared 4.20m (13-9.25) to tie for the win, and took second after tiebreakers to unattached athlete Joanna Wright. Ahbe took the win among collegiates. She was five centimeters under her season best, but still 13 centimeters better than the second-best mark in the Big Ten.
Butler was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 20.43. The time is he third-fastest in school history. He is more than a half second better than the next fastest Big Ten time this season. In the 100, Butler ran a season best 10.40, which puts him within .01 of the Big Ten lead.
Stockberger clocked a time of 3:47.24 for second in the 1,500. Andy Weatherford was ninth in 3:50.00.
In the womenÂ’s 800, IU alum Molly Beckwith was the winner in 2:03.63, and IUÂ’s Ruth Christopher was seventh in 2:08.12.
Other key performers included Emma Kimoto, whose clearance of 1.75m (5-8.75) was good for sixth in the high jump, and Breanne Ehrman, who was seventh in the 1,500 in 4:23.33.
