Fast Times at Stanford Invite for the Hoosiers
PALO ALTO, Calif. - Andy Bayer was one of several Hoosiers posting historically fast times at the Stanford Invitational on Friday. Bayer took sixth in the menÂ’s 5,000, finishing just off the Olympic Trials A Standard.
Andy Bayer took sixth in 13:33.25, just missing the Olympic Trials A Standard of 13:33.00. His time is the second-fastest in IU history, passing three-time Olympian Jim Spivey. Andrew Poore was 19th in the race, clocking a time of 13:48.15. Poore moves into sixth on IndianaÂ’s all-time list.
Kelsey Duerksen won her heat of the 5,000, finishing in 16:23.95, which was nearly 2.5 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. DuerksenÂ’s time is the fifth-fastest in IU history.
Zach Mayhew clocked a time of 13:54.94 for second in heat two of the menÂ’s 5,000. He recovered from a fall on the first lap of the race to work his way back to the front and kick to a second place finish.
IU alum Sarah Pease took fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:02.20. Her time puts her among the top 10 in the world this season.
