Three top-20 results at Stanford Invitational

 

            FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 4 University of Arkansas men’s track and field team closed out the Stanford Invitational Saturday with a trio of top-20 finishes at 800 meters from Drew Butler, Duncan Phillips and Anthony Lieghio. The Stanford Invitational was held at the Cobb Track & Angell Field in Palo Alto, Calif.

Butler was the Razorbacks’ top performer at 800 meters. In the six-section timed final, Butler posted the sixth-fastest performance with a personal-best time of 1:49.43. He surpassed his previous of 1:50.03 run at the 2010 SEC Championships. Saturday’s race was the first outdoor competition for Butler since the 2010 season.

Phillips ran the second-fastest time of her career. The Razorback senior clocked in at 1:49.81 to finish ninth in heat one and in 14th place overall. Arkansas’ third top-20 result belonged to Lieghio. He finished seventh in heat two and in 17th place overall with a time of 1:50.29.

The Razorbacks return to action April 13-14 for the Arizona State Tri-Meet in Tempe, Ariz. Arkansas’ next home meet is April 20-21 with the John McDonnell Invitational.
