LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Former University of Louisville cross country and track and field standout Wesley Korir captured the 2012 Boston Marathon title on Monday afternoon.

Racing in near-record high temperatures, Korir completed the race in a winning time of 2:12:40. The race consisted of 15,504 male runners.

The win marks his third marathon victory in his post-collegiate career after he captured the 2009 and 2010 L.A. Marathon crowns. He holds the second-fastest race time of 2:08:24, which he set in 2009.

A Kenyan native, Korir (2005-07) was one of the program's top runners in cross country and track and currently is the school record holder in four events (three outdoor and one indoor). He earned all-region cross country honors in 2005 and 2006 and won six individual titles during that span. On the track side, he won the 10K at the 2005 Conference USA Outdoor Championships and earned All-America honors in 2007 in the 5,000m.

Korir graduated in December 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
