Gillespie runs fifth-fastest time in UA history
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Kristen Gillespie turned in a third-place finish performance Friday evening in the 1,500 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Running in the invitational section of the event, the Razorback senior posted a time of 4:13.41
and moved into fifth place on Arkansas’ all-time performance list for the 1,500 meters.
With her performance, Gillespie knocked more than three seconds off her previous career best of 4:17.00 which she ran last season at the NCAA West Preliminary. Based on times
entering the weekend, Gillespie’s effort would lead the Southeastern Conference and be the No. 3 time in the NCAA. She finished in third place overall and was the second collegiate performer in the race.
Friday’s race is the second of the outdoor campaign for Gillespie. In her first appearance of the season, she posted the second-fastest time at 5,000 meters in school history.
Arkansas’ competition schedule at the Mt. SAC Relays will conclude late Friday night with the 5,000 meters. Freshmen Kaitlin Flattmann and Dominique Scott are set to toe the
line for the Razorbacks. Their race is scheduled for an 11:55 p.m. (CT) start at Hilmer Lodge Stadium.
Competition continues Saturday at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville. Action in the field events begins at noon (CT) with running events beginning at 4 p.m. Meet coverage of
the John McDonnell Invitational will include live results and an interactive blog beginning at 2 p.m. For more information regarding Razorback track and field or University of Arkansas athletics, please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
