STANFORD, Calif. – Luke Puskedra had a :21 personal best in the men’s 10,000 meters in his 2012 outdoor debut Sunday night at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational.
The senior from Ogden, Utah, ran 28:13.91, which moved him to No. 4 all-time on the Oregon career list, behind only Galen Rupp, Bill McChesney, Jr., and Alberto Salazar.
Puskedra was 23rd overall and fourth among collegians. His time was the sixth-fastest in the NCAA in 2012.
In that menÂ’s 10,000, Canadian Cam Levens, who runs at Southern Utah, won in 27:27.96, with OTCÂ’s Sam Chelenga second in 27:29.82. Chris Derrick of Stanford was third in 27:31.38 and broke RuppÂ’s 2007 American collegiate record of 27:33.48.
Also Sunday, Jordan Hasay finished 16th overall and was second among collegians in the womenÂ’s 5,000 meters.
Hasay ran 15:44.87 in a fast race that saw five women hit the Olympic “A” Standard. Oregon Track Club Elite went 1-2 with Sally Kipyego winning in 14:43.11 and Julia Lucas impressing in 15:08.52.
Hasay, a junior from Arroyo Grande, Calif., ran the 13th-fastest 5K in the NCAA this season in what was her 2012 outdoor debut at 5,000 meters.
