Pac-12 Track & Field Championships Begins With Multi Events

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference Track and Field Championships (82nd annual for men, 26th annual for women) begins in Eugene, Ore., this Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6 with the multi events and continues next weekend, Saturday-Sunday, May 12-13 with the running and field events. The University of Oregon plays host to the championships at Hayward Field.

A total of 34 participants have been entered for the multi events, including 15 women and 19 men. The championships begin with the menÂ’s 100-meter race at 11:30 a.m., followed by the womenÂ’s 100 meter hurdles. On the second day, the competition begins with the men lining up for the 100 meter hurdles at 11 a.m.

Admission is free of charge for the heptathlon and decathlon. Tickets for the second weekend of competition on May 12-13 can be purchased through the University of Oregon ticket office by calling 1-800-WEB-FOOT or by going online at www.GoDucks.com.

ON THE AIR... FOX Sports Net will air a two-hour tape delayed show. Air times will be announced at a later date. Paul Sunderland will call the action with color commentary provided by Joanna Hayes and Tom Feuer. Drea Avent will provide additional commentary from the infield. Check the local listings for the airing dates of the championships on your FOX Sports Net regional provider.

HEPTATHLON/DECATHLON... The multi events take center stage this weekend with the men competing in the decathlon and the women in the heptathlon. Competition begins on Saturday at 11:30 and concludes on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. A full schedule of the competition can be found on page 4. Seven of the 12 womenÂ’s competitors from last year return to compete at the league meet, once again, including Arizona State juniors Keia Pinnick and Christabel Nettey, who finished second and third. Also returning to the field for the first time in two years is OregonÂ’s Brianne Theisen, who won the league title in 2009 and 2010. She went on to win the NCAA title in the heptathlon in both those seasons, as well. In the decathlon, nine of the 15 menÂ’s competitors from 2011 also return, including UCLA junior Dominic Giovanni who placed third as a sophomore.
