Nine Cavaliers Named to Indoor Track and Field All-ACC Academic Squad

Six men, three women honored

 

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Nine members of the Virginia men’s and women’s track and field team have been named to the indoor track and field All-ACC Academic team, the conference announced Friday (May 11).

 

Six men, including Kevin Anding (Houston, Texas), Mark Amirault (Walpole, Mass.), Chris Foley (Chantilly, Va.), Taylor Gilland (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Christian Lavorgna (Sparta, N.J.) and Thomas Porter (Fredericksburg, Va.), and three women, including Anna Corrigan (Burke, Va.), Jordan Lavender (Nashville, Tenn.) and Dallas Rose (Pearland, Texas) were honored on the squad.

 

Amirault, Foley and Porter went 1-2-3 in the 5,000 meters at the ACC Championships, while Anding, a four-time indoor honoree, placed third in the 400 meters at the conference meet. Gilland finished fourth in the mile, while Lavorgna finished seventh in the heptathlon at the ACC meet.

 

On the womenÂ’s side, Corrigan earned silver in the 5,000 meters and placed fifth in the 3,000 meters at the conference meet. Rose claimed bronze in the triple jump at ACCs and went on to earn second team All-America honors with a 12th-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Lavender broke the Virginia freshman records in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 300 meters and 400 meters.

 

Amirault and Corrigan were named to the USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic team in the fall, while Anding was named to the All-ACC Academic team for the 2010 outdoor season.

 

Curtis Beach of Duke and Michelle Jenije of Florida State were named the conference's Men's and Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, respectively.

 

The Cavaliers host the Virginia Challenge Saturday (May 12) at Lannigan Field. The field action starts at 3:30 p.m., while the running events begin at 5 p.m.
