Pac-12 Track, Field Athletes Prepare for NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa


WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Pac-12 menÂ’s and womenÂ’s track and field student-athletes will be competing at the 2012 NCAA MenÂ’s and WomenÂ’s Outdoor Track & Field Champions being hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Wednesday-Saturday, June 6-9. Participants qualified for the national championships through competition at the preliminary round sites. All Pac-12 athletes competed at the West Region in Austin, Texas.


In all, 61 male and 70 female athletes and relay teams from the Pac-12 will be competing for individual national titles in at least one event, many of them also hoping to score enough points for the team competition. Conference womenÂ’s teams earned 77 entries to the competition in Des Moines, the most of any league in the country. On the menÂ’s side, the 69 entries by Pac-12 teams are the second-most of any conference.

LIVE BROADCAST... ESPNU/ESPN3.com will televise the final two hours of the NCAA Championships live from 9-11 am. PT on Saturday, June 9. ESPN3.com will broadcast live on Thursday, June 7 beginning at 2:15 p.m. PT and on Friday, June 8 beginning at 3:15 p.m. PT. In addition, there will be a free live streaming of the championships available at www.ncaa.com, including all of WednesdayÂ’s competitions, as well as early portions of the meet from Thursday-Saturday.

PAC-12 NCAA HISTORY... The Pac-12 is looking for its first NCAA outdoor menÂ’s title since StanfordÂ’s win in 2000, while the most recent womenÂ’s team to have won the national championship was Arizona State in 2007. League teams have won 45 menÂ’s NCAA crowns all-time, dating back to 1922, while womenÂ’s teams have won six, dating back to 1982 when the NCAA began sponsoring womenÂ’s championships.
