LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Seniors Charachesicia Lockhart and Holly Knight completed the University of Louisville track and field team’s first day at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium
with All-America honors Thursday evening in Des Moines, Iowa.
Participating in the women’s 10,000m race, Knight maintained a top-10 position throughout the early part of the race. Already an All-American in the event, Knight finished
with a time of 33:57.36 to place 17th to earn honorable mention All-America honors. She becomes just the second athlete in program history to secure honors in the event, with Michelle Borgert (1995) collecting the first distinction. In her one-year career,
Knight concludes her tenure as the school’s record holder in three events: indoor 5,000m and the outdoor 5,000m and 10,000m.
Lockhart opened the day for the Cardinals in the women’s long jump. After fouling on her first two attempts, the Dallas, Texas, native registered a legal leap of 5.97m/19-7
on her third try. The mark was good enough for 21st, making Lockhart the first female in program history to earn All-America honors in the event. It also was Lockhart’s first career distinction. She is slated to compete on Saturday, June 9, in the women’s
triple jump at 11 a.m. ET.
The Cardinals return to action with four athletes competing on Friday, June 8, at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines. Michelle Theophille and Maggie Gilbertson
will take part in the women’s high jump at 5:30 p.m. ET, while Khadija Abdullah and Chinwe Okoro follow with the women’s shot put at 6 p.m. ET.
