Robinson Places Sixth in Triple Jump on Day Three of NCAA Championships
Senior breaks school record on final attempt
DES MOINES, Iowa—Senior
Marcus Robinson (Richmond, Va.) broke the school record in the menÂ’s triple jump and finished sixth as the Virginia track and field program finished the third day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium
in Des Moines, Iowa, on Friday (June 8).
Robinson hit a mark of 16.46m (54’ 0”) on his sixth and final attempt to place sixth. He finished fifth in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March.
“I knew I had it in me and even though I was a little forward on the jump, I was just happy to be a part of a great competition,” said Robinson.
In the menÂ’s hammer throw, senior
Vincenzo Chiariello (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished 19th in his first NCAA appearance. He hit a mark of 60.66m (199’ 0”) on his third and final attempt.
The NCAA Championships conclude Saturday (June 9). The action begins at 10 a.m.
