King to Compete at World Junior Championships
Rising sophomore to represent United States in 5,000 meters

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Virginia track and field rising sophomore Kyle King (Yorktown, Va.) will compete for the United States at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain, from July 10-15. The six-day competition will feature athletes under the age of 20 from 180 countries at Olympic Stadium.

King will compete in the menÂ’s 5,000 meters on Saturday (July 14) at 3:05 p.m. ET. He qualified for the American team with a second-place finish at the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships on June 15 in Bloomington, Ind.

“Ever since I didn't make it to NCAAs, I've been really hungry,” King said. “To make the national team and represent the USA at World Juniors is an awesome blessing.”

King finished fourth in the 5,000m at the ACC Championships in April and 15th at the NCAA East Preliminaries in May. He set the Virginia freshman record in the event (13:55.60) at the Colonial Relays in early April.

Live results will be linked via VirginiaSports.com. UniversalSports.com will offer live broadcast coverage (including the menÂ’s 5,000m) starting on Saturday, July 14 at 12:20 p.m., Eastern. Day five and six evening session coverage can be found on the site for $5.99. DirecTV and Dish Network subscribers can log on to the site and watch the broadcast for free.
