Pickering Places 15th in 10K at IAAF World Junior Meet

BARCELONA, Spain – Freshman Ryan Pickering opened the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships with a 15th place finish in the men’s 10,000 meters on Tuesday.

 

The West Palm Beach, Fla., ran 31:33.69 in a race won by Ethiopia’s Yigrem Demelash in 28:16.07.

 

Two other Ducks will be in action later this week in Barcelona, Allie Woodward will cap an impressive freshman season in the 5,000 meters on Wednesday. The Green Bay, Wis., native placed fifth in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships and was third in the 10,000 and sixth in the 5,000 at the inaugural Pac-12 Championships.

 

She won the U.S. junior title in the 5,000 meters last month in Bloomington, Ind., in a personal-best 16:15.27 to qualify for Barcelona.

 

Arthur Delaney, from Gresham, Ore., is a member of Team USA’s 4x100 meter relay pool. The preliminary rounds are on Friday with the final on Saturday.
