Bolt Sub 9?
Bolt Sub 9?
There's no bones about it, Usain Bolt is fast. The man has proved himself on the big stage time and time again, shattering world records and looking like a boss while doing it. But just how fast is he?
According to a piece on Reuters.com, American sprinting legend Tommie Smith believes that Bolt is capable of going under nine seconds for the 100m and under 19 seconds for the 200m. Smith said that the only thing Bolt needs is a start like his younger rival, Yohan Blake.
These are bold claims. But remember, this is coming from the first man to break 20 seconds in the 200m. A man who has an Olympic Gold medal hanging from his mantle; a man who--along with John Carlos--provided one of the most iconic images of the Civil Rights movement. Now I'm not sure if these things make you an authority on sprint analysis, but they can't hurt.
Much like the idea of a sub-2 hour marathon, sub-9 seconds is a difficult thing to wrap your head around. I really don't know anything about anything so I'm going to leave this one up to you guys, check out the article. Mull it over. Post your comments.
