LONDON, England - Derek DrouinÂ’s next big goal is a win at the London Olympics later this month. He got good practice this weekend, taking a win in London at the Aviva London Grand Prix Diamond League Meet. Drouin and IU alum Molly Beckwith both claimed victories at the meet.
Drouin cleared 2.26m (7-5) to take the win in the high jump, knocking off Robbie Grabarz of Great Britain, the number three jumper in the world this season, in the process. Drouin cleared 7-5 on his second attempt, while Grabarz was only able to clear 2.22m (7-3.25) for second place.
Beckwith clocked a time of 2:00.68 for the win, narrowly beating Janeth Jepkosgei of Kenya by less 1/100th of a second. Beckwith also beat American Geena Gall, who will represent the U.S. in the Olympics later this month. BeckwithÂ’s performance is her eighth time under 2:01 in 2012, a feat she has accomplished in seven-straight races.
