Louisville Track and Field Collects Team, Individual Academic Honors

The Cardinals’ men’s and women’s teams picked up USTFCCCA academic accolades.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men’s and women’s track and field teams were tabbed U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic recipients and multiple individuals were named all-academic honorees, it was announced Thursday.

 

A total of 171 institutions earned the distinction as a result of a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better. The Cardinals’ men’s squad registered a cumulative 3.04 grade-point average, while the women’s squad scored a 3.12 cumulative GPA. In Division I, the BIG EAST had the most schools (12) win the award on the women's side, while the seven BIG EAST men's squads on the list tied the Ivy League for the most among all conferences.

 

Individually, Louisville had nine student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team. Making the list on the men’s side was Calvin Arsenault, Sam Bombaugh and Gordon Dooley, and Maggie Gilbertson, Holly Knight, Chinwe Okoro, Megan Schubert, Malina Simmers and Jenna Wargo secured a spot on the women’s team.

 

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
