"You’re not disabled by the disabilities you have, you are able by the abilities you have." – Oscar Pistorius, "Blade Runner"

By now, many of us seem to know who the infamous "Blade Runner", Oscar Pistorius and the story that surrounds him is.  He was born without fibulas in his legs (shins) and his parent's decided that they would go with the surgery to amputate his legs before he was even at the age to learn how to walk so that it wouldn't effect his motor skills.  He has come along way since then as he is soon to be the 1st double amputee runner at the competing in the Olympic Games.

After 1st breakthrough race in March of '07 at the South African Championships, clocking 46.56s.

Another solid 400m in Rome '07, 46.90s.

Dec. 2007, the IAAF begin to question if Oscar has a large physical advantage.

May, 2008 the IAAF states Pistorius is eligible for IAAF sanctioned events. July, 2008, pictured below Oscar runs a PR, 46.25s. (.70s out of Oly qualifying mark)

This is the Ossur Flex-Foot Cheetah (Chee-tuh), which Oscar and about 80% of Paralympic athletes wear.

Oscar had down time after not qualifying for Berlin in 2009, great mentor to other amputees.

Unfortunately, Oscar faced much downtime after not being able to compete in the 2010 Commonwealth Games as well.

Excited to be in the UK!

The events we are all looking forward to debut in just a few more days, and we all are waiting and wishing that something magical happens.  Without a doubt this year will be one to remember, and we'll soon find out what The Blade Runner has in store for us!  What's even more impressive is that after all is said and done at the Olympic Games in London, Oscar will actually be staying around for a tad bit longer as he plans on competing in the ParaOlmpic Games as well, which are also held in London.
